In 2016 MAD Playhouse Theater is proud to be supporting two upcoming South Asian Plays in New York City : The Queen & A Muslim in the Midst) & encourages everyone to come out and show their support for the work that has been put up by a talented team which is bringing an opportunity to bring the change within.
MAD Playhouse is one of the producers for “A Muslim in the Midst” and is a King-Producer for “The Queen”
The Queen, written by Aditya Rawal and directed by Gwynn MacDonald, will have a run from the 2nd of June to the 19th of June at the historical Off-Off-Broadway venue, Theater for the New City.
Set in 16th century India, at the peak of the Mughal era, The Queen is the story of Durga, who is consigned to the west wing of the palace after her husband, the Rajput king, marries a younger woman. She battles against the loss of her beauty and relevance as she resolves to burn the palace down and avenge her husband’s betrayal.
The play explores themes of power and the position of women in society, an issue that in four centuries has not lost its importance.
